Dress Code for Onboard Dining

There are three distinct types of dress for evenings onboard: casual, resort casual and formal. Suggested dress guidelines for these nights are:

  • Casual: sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women
  • Resort Casual: jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women
  • Formal: suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

Additional Wardrobe Suggestions


  • Bathing suits, sarongs or cover ups, sandals or flip-flops, sunglasses, hats
  • Workout clothes, sneakers
  • Casual – shorts, skirts, tank tops, short sleeve shirts, sun dresses, t-shirts
  • Resort Casual – linen tops, capris or dresses, khakis, shirts, dresses, light weight sweaters
  • Evening Wear – club wear, formal dresses, shoes, accessories, shawls


  • Sports/athletic attire to participate in basketball, rock climbing, jogging and golf
  • Casual – shorts, bathing suits, tank tops, t-shirts, polos, flip-flops, sneakers, short sleeve shirts, hats, sunglasses
  • Resort casual – khakis, jeans, chinos, linen pants and shirts, long sleeve shirts, light weight sweaters, shoes
  • Evening wear – club wear, formal dining (jacket and shirts) dark color shirts with slacks, shoes

Suggested Packing Checklist for Traveling

  • Cruise documents
  • Driver’s license and auto insurance card – in case you decide to rent a car onshore
  • Medical insurance cards and medical history
  • Copy of prescriptions and list of all medicines you are taking
  • Other picture ID – if you don’t take your driver’s license
  • Credit cards – be sure to call credit card companies before traveling to alert them you are traveling outside your area of residence
  • ATM card
  • Cash or traveler’s checks (be sure to keep traveler’s checks receipt separately)
  • Three copies of airline tickets, cruise tickets, passports/visas, itinerary – pack one copy in your carry on, one copy in your checked luggage and leave one copy with someone at home
  • Contact numbers to report lost/stolen credit cards or traveler’s checks
  • Emergency numbers at home
  • Currency conversion chart
  • Watch – a dual time zone watch is ideal!

Reading Materials and Necessities

  • Glasses, contact lenses, contact lens cleaner
  • Reading sunglasses
  • Extra reading glasses
  • Sunglasses
  • Guidebooks and other port of call information
  • Reading material – books to read while on the plane or lounging by the pool
  • Business cards with email address to give out to new cruise friends

Electronics and Camera Equipment

  • Plug adaptor and converter
  • Cell phone and charger
  • PDA/tablet and charger
  • Laptop computer and charger
  • Binoculars
  • Digital camera
  • Extra memory card for digital camera
  • Batteries for digital camera
  • Disposable underwater camera – for snorkeling or beach days
  • Battery charger
  • I-pod/MP3 player
  • Small travel alarm clock – battery operated; lighted dial clock for cruise ship stateroom

Medical Kit

  • Prescription drugs and any other essential medications in your carry-on bag
  • Ear plugs
  • Small first aid kit (band aids, Q-tips, Vaseline, Dramamine, antibiotic cream, bandages, anti-diarrhea medication, cortisone cream, aspirin/Tylenol/ Advil)
  • Handi-wipes (for cleaning hands when onshore)
  • Hand lotion
  • Bug spray
  • Sun screen/sun block and lip sun block

Other Necessities

  • Extra plastic cable-lock ties for securing luggage for return trip (better than locks, but one-time use only)
  • Extra luggage name tags (in case yours are lost on the outbound trip)
  • Ziploc bags of all sizes and garbage/laundry bags
  • Small umbrella
  • Glue
  • Playing cards
  • Sports gear (e.g. snorkeling gear)
  • Shoe horn
  • Sewing kit and scissors (pack in checked luggage)
  • Empty folding tote bag – for souvenirs or the beach
  • Hats/caps/visors
